Your Guide to planning your Wedding in
Newcastle & Northumberland
We are so fortunate to have so many beautiful venues and talented wedding suppliers in this region, but because of that vast amount of choice, it’s really hard to know where to start! So I thought i’d put together a list of venues and suppliers that I know and trust, to help you in your wedding planning journey.
Venues –
There are so many venues, with many different qualities. I think the venue is the first booking you should make, then after that, everything else should fall into place. My advice, is to book viewings with a few different types of venues, as that will give you a feel for what sort of venue you like. Barn? Stately Home? You just don’t know how you’ll feel until you get there –
Wylam Brewery - A unique venue in the heart of Newcastle. Set within the grounds of Exhibition Park, this very industrial and historical wedding venue has a cool vibe for laid back couples (whether they love beer or not!)
Charlton Hall – The beauty of a Northumberland Georgian home, with lots of quirky decor. We're a recommended supplier there!
Ellingham Hall - Just off the A1, yet utterly tranquil! We are a recommended Florist here and love that it's an exclusive use venue
Lemmington Hall - A luxurious exclusive use venue, for which we are a recommended Florist!
Halton Grove - A favourite of ours. It's exclusive use and we love it's sprawling gardens that change throughout the season. We're a recommended Florist here too!
Woodhill Hall – A Country home in Otterburn, exclusive & unforgettable!
Full Circle Brew Co - A new venue and set just outside of Newcastle City Centre in the well known Hoults Yard area. An industrial laid back space that you can really make your own!
Le Petit Chateau- A popular venue in the heart of Otterburn
Middleton Lodge – A stunning estate in North Yorkshire with a number of places to marry on site. The Fig House being my favourite! But they also have a marquee, an outdoor ceremony area on the lawn and they are licensed inside the main house too.
Healey Barn – A beautiful barn venue near Corbridge. I adore decorating their huge fireplace in the ceremony area
Secret Tower – A hidden gem of a venue in the heart of Newcastle. Historic and excellent views. You can really make this place your own!
Vermont Hotel – A stylish city hotel venue. Marry in either the Gold Room, The Ball room or take advantage of the stunning views of Newcastle's Tyne Bridge (and more) on the rooftop terrace that is the Above rooftop bar.
Jesmond Dene House – A peaceful setting in the heart of Newcastle! Former home of Lord Armstrong and only 2 minutes from the city centre.
Photographers –
We have so much talent in the region. When Mr Floral Quarter and I were planning our wedding, we found it really difficult to choose! My advice? There is no right or wrong choice, so start with a google search of photographers in the area and see whose work you find yourself drawn to. You’ll probably find yourself drawn to a certain style of work without realising it. Some are dark and moody, some are really light and airy, just go with what you’re drawn to and then approach a few and arrange appointments to see who you get on with best and who you have most confidence in.
Here are a few that I work with regularly and know/trust –
Helen Russell Photography – Beautiful light and airy images. I can always count on Helen to photograph my flowers well!
Paul Liddement – Light and airy style and great guy. He’ll blend in with your day and you’ll have a stunning album!
Emily Hannah – Lovely lady and light and airy style. Always beautiful images after the wedding!
Hey Chris Randle – Captures the moment really well and in a more of the dark and moody style. Easy to get on with and he’ll blend into your day, not take over it.
Unfurl Photography – Love Gill’s work, often uses a more dark and moody style. Loves being out in the woolly wilds of Northumberland or on an elopement!
Amy Lou Photography - I always get so many stunning flower images if Amy is behind the lens at a wedding!
Melissa Beattie - Light and airy, fine art style. Lovely lady and always takes great pics of my flowers!
Sean Elliott – Sean photographed my own big day and he has a style all of his own! My guests loved him too and talked about him for a long time after the wedding! He's also based 2 minutes from me at the Biscuit Factory
Emma Ryan - A great energy and if you love that high fashion/elegant look to your photos, give Emma a call!
RGM Photo - Ross is lovely and will blend in to your day rather than take over
Erika Tanith We often work with Erika at Wylam Brewery weddings and she's lovely!
Carn Patrick - Beautiful light and airy style. He can even make a dreary rainy Northumberland day look like summer!
Danny Birrell - Lovely to get on with and has an unobtrusive style
Daniel Potts - A lovely bloke and a talented photographer
Paul Santos - A master of his craft. If you want a stunning album made by an award winning photographer then he's your guy!
Dresses –
In my experience, people never end up buying the type of dress they thought they wanted, it’s usually one that the Bridal Boutique suggests for them! So book at appointment at a couple of places to see what sort of experience they offer you and what sort of gowns they have. Or you can even have one made if you’re after something unique!
Y.A.P. Bridal – You’re part of a family when you go see these ladies! They’re always on trend and offering a combination of the best service with the most on trend gowns.
The Wedding Dress Company – Beautiful gowns in Corbridge
Mia Sposa – Beautiful selection of gowns in the heart of Newcastle
Diva Designs – Seamstress in Seaham who can alter your dress or design you a whole new one! Works alongside Y.A.P. Bridal as well as her own commissions.
Sisters of Grace - Super on trend gowns in the heart of Newcastle city centre
Bridal Reloved Morpeth - Give a pre loved wedding dress a new lease of life!
Hair & Make-Up –
I’ll be honest, this is where I struggled when I was getting married. It was really unfamiliar territory for me and I never particularly love looking at myself, so it was one of the toughest decisions for me. However I have worked alongside some lovely people, who really know their stuff, in the 6 years since I was planning and would love to share them with you –
Victoria Holdstock Bridal Makeup
Cakes -
We are blessed with many talented cake makers in the north east. Here are just a few that I have worked with and love -
Special Touches-
I often work with some wonderful suppliers that add a special touch to your day but don't fit into the above categories. Dog Chaperones, for example! If you have a fur baby that you want to see on your wedding day but want it well taken care of so you can still enjoy your day without worrying, then check out Wishbone Weddings! Cheryl is a qualified and experienced Vet (and a bit of a Dog whisperer!)
There are many other aspects of your day which you will book, but I think i’ve given you enough to think about for now! In time, you’ll book Stationery, Videographers, Event Dressers, caterers, DJ’s, Cars etc, but I think these things above are among the major aspects of the day that my clients worry about. Get those booked in and everything else will fall into place.
What should you look for in a Wedding Supplier?
Any good wedding supplier will help guide you through the process and help you feel at ease so that you aren’t worrying while planning and are confident when the day itself comes. The lead up to the wedding is just as important as the day itself I think. Nobody wants to be stressed while planning!
Pick someone who you get on well with, whose work you like the look of, who you feel confident in and if they have been recommended by someone who know then all the better.
What can I offer you as a Florist?
A lot of my clients say that i’m professional, friendly, make them feel at ease and that I knew what they wanted from their flowers even when they didn’t. I invite you for an initial meeting over Zoom or phone, to chat through some ideas and by the end of that meeting, my clients leave feeling a whole lot better about their flowers and with a much more specific idea of what their day will look like.
I’m there for you throughout the whole process too. So if you have a question for me, i’ll gladly answer it for you with prompt replies to your email.
I hope this guide has helped you a little and given you a good start on your wedding planning journey. If you are interested in booking me, then the enquiry form is on my website. Just fill that in and that start the ball rolling for us.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Vicky
